Insecure Black Female Artists

It seems to be that insecurity among black female artists is at an all time high. Remember back in 2014 when Beyonce was caught photoshopping thigh gaps into her instagram photos?

This was just a sad example of what occors when a woman gets insecure. For us, it would seem impossible for black beauties such as Rihanna and Beyonce to be insecure, but alas, they are just people. The real issue with their insecurities, is that people have begun to stop calling it what it is: an insecurity. When the photoshopping fiasco took place, many Beyonce fans declined to state the truth. Many belivied that Beyonce would not do something like this, and that she hadn't photoshopped at all, even though it was obviously apparent that she had.

It is a great loss when people hold their favorite celebrities to a higher level, as if they are not allowed to be mentally flawed. In recent news, Rihanna was caught lying about how many viewers tuned into her Rio concert, stating that it had more viewers than the MTV Awards. This was simply not true. It had only a tenth of the viewers of the award show. Yes, she may have just been misinformed, but more likely, she found the oppurtunity to shade the award show while also boosting up her own ego. Stating facts that are simply not true for the sole purpose of improving your brand is an insecurity. Impressionable fans do not see this as just a performer who is so used to suceeding that they made a slight mistake when bragging, but as a performer who is incappaple of lying. A performer who is incapable of being insecure. A performer who is perfect. This fake standard that black female artists are allowing to be created for themselves, is very problematic.

Do you feel as if the standard that black female artists are held to has been steady, or is it increasing? If it is increasing, do you like feel its problematic or OK? Comment your opinions below, or head to the forum for more discussion.
